The Uncommon Denominator is
a ceramics exhibition featuring the work of a select
group of former students of Professor Richard Hirsch.
These professional artists represent over thirty years
of teaching and mentoring in the School for American
Crafts at the Rochester Institute of Technology and
at the former Program in Artisanry at Boston University.
This exhibition constitutes a matrix of cultural diversity
and encompasses a wide spectrum of aesthetic expression.
Highlighted are the artist's individual exploration within
the formats of sculpture, the vessel, and utilitarian
pottery.
A catalog with full color images, which includes each
artist's work, artist statement, and a short biography,
will accompany the exhibition. Inauguration of the exhibition
is scheduled for Friday, September 10th, 2004 at the
Dyer Arts Center in the Lyndon Baines Johnson Building
at 1 Lomb Memorial Drive on the Rochester Institute of
Technology campus in Rochester, NY. 14623

The
TransCultural Exchange and
The
Romanian Cultural Institute
TransCultural
Exchange is pleased to announce six new installations
of public art works, sponsored by UNESCO, as part of
The Tile Project, Destination:
The World

Each
of these public art works will include over 100 tiles, created
by artists from every corner of the globe. Through this
Project, artists are provingwhat otherwise seems
elusivethat international cooperation, peace and
cross cultural understanding are possible. Come celebrate
this momentous event by visiting the most recent installation
in Finland and attending the opening ceremonies for the
installations at the locations and times to the left...
Ellen
Schön's Tile
My
tiles represent aerial views of the earth, combining
traces of natural and built environments. They express
a yearning to see ourselves from above as one human family.

Also,
Randi Sherman recently wrote an article about the Transcultural
Tile Exchange Project for "CeramicsTECHNICAL" Issue
17 in which I am quoted!
